Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 14 Girls Team finished second in Group 5 of the Caribbean Football Union U-14 Girls Challenge Series as they went down 2-1 to group winners Cuba at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Tuesday.
Following wins against Grenada and Suriname, T&T were in search of a result that would leave them top of the table but despite a late surge to try and get themselves back into the match, the hosts had to settle for second.
Carissa Cowan put T&T ahead with a low shot into the left corner of the goals after she capitalised on on a give away by the Cuban defender on eight minutes. T&T would go on to miss a couple further chances before Dalia Baez shot past goalkeeper Mikaela Yearwood from the edge of the box on 31 minutes. Keila Hernandez then sent a long range effort into the far corner in the 42nd minute for the eventual winner.
T&T pushed forward with a barrage of attacks which would only result in near misses in the closing fifteen minutes of the 70-minute affair.
