Shabazz selects 20-player squad for CAC Games

Trinidad and Tobago head coach Jamaal Shabazz has finalised a 20-member National Senior Women’s squad that will travel to Barranquilla, Colombia on Sunday to participate at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games.

“The squad reflects an interesting blend of youth and experience,” Shabazz told TTFA Media on Thursday.

“We’ve got local and foreign based players in the mix, the kind of diversity that has become synonymous with our twin island Republic.”

With T&T carded to contest the final round of CONCACAF Caribbean qualifiers in in Kingston, Jamaica next month, the matches in Barranquilla is expected to serve as proper warm-ups ahead of the qualifying outings.

T&T Senior Women’s head coach Jamaal Shabazz seems satisfied with the team’s shape at the moment and is looking forward to the challenge in Colombia as he also eyes the bigger assignment to follow in Jamaica.

“This CAC Games allows us to see the future with the present and mesh it with the soon to become past bunch of players against Concacaf  level opposition,” Shabazz added.

“We want the girls to accept the challenge that playing against the likes of Mexico, Haiti and others at present. And in doing so if we can steal a semi final spot, that would really boost our preparations for the World Cup Qualifiers come August,” he added.
T&T will open their Group B account against Mexico at the Estadio Moderno Julio Torres in Barranquilla on July 20th. Two days later they face Nicaragua before closing the group stage against Haiti on July 24th. Group A comprises hosts Colombia, Venezuela, Jamaica and Costa Rica. The group winners and runners up will move onto the semi finals on July 27th with the bronze medal and gold medal matches scheduled for July 30th.
