The reputation of Trinidad and Tobago’s Senior Men’s Head Coach is growing rapidly amongst his peers on the international stage. Dennis Lawrence is currently in the United Kingdom to revalidate his UEFA Pro Licence and he is rubbing shoulders with many big names in the game which can only benefit T&T in due course.
Lawrence is attending the 2018 FAW National Coaches Conference which is held annually every May at Celtic Manor and Dragon Park in Newport Wales to discuss the latest ideas and innovations around football coaching.
The three-day event, which combines entertaining and insightful theory lectures with world-class practical sessions which all coaches can learn from, also serves as a revalidation for UEFA Pro Licence, A Licence and B Licence holders while grassroots coaches, from around Wales, also get involved. The T&T Coach has been interacting with the likes of Marcel Desailly, Ryan Giggs, Thierry Henry, Ian Rush, David Ginola and Sol Campbell to name a few and he outlined the benefits of the experience.
“It’s valuable for myself to have the opportunity to sit with current managers, directors of football, technical directors and coaches to be able discuss football on a global level and hopefully improve yourself with different ideas so I am really excited to be here following the FIFA technical director course I just attended in Trinidad” Lawrence told TTFA Media “The renewal of the Pro Licence is important but even more so, are the ideas, innovations and stories exchanged at a forum like this.”
Welsh Coach Giggs, who takes his team to Pasadena to face Mexico on Tuesday, 28 May, before September’s Nations League double-header against Republic of Ireland and Denmark, joined the annual coaching showcase before meeting up with his squad. He said: “I’m a young coach and I’m constantly learning.
“I want to be the best. I want to get better and to do that I need to keep developing and grabbing new ideas to use in preparation for games, even for the national team. You never stop learning. You can always develop yourself.”
The conference concludes on Sunday with an on-field session which involves some 200 coaches.
