Senior Men focus on Panama friendly

Following his match winning performance for ‘Ross Russell and friends’ versus the much vaunted i95.95 on Easter Sunday, Head Coach Dennis Lawrence got back to business on Tuesday as preparation for the April 17 friendly international versus Panama continued at the Larry Gomes stadium in Arima. Lawrence and staff members Stern John, Paul Lawrence and host Russell all featured in the 3-2 win over the ‘radio guys’ with the coach slotting in the winner from a tight angle with two minutes remaining.

They will be hoping that the hunger for victory rubs off on their charges for the upcoming encounter to maintain an unbeaten streak which is now at five matches following back to back friendlies in Guadeloupe and Martinique.

The squad is shaping up to be one dominated by locally based players due to the fact that the match will be played outside the international FIFA window and once again the coach will take the opportunity to look at some new prospects for the senior team.

“We continue to look at all players who we believe can make a contribution at senior level and that’s why you see the likes of Justin Sadoo and Jameel Neptune in the training squad which already includes Rondel Gibson, Kevon Goddard, Judah Garcia Isaiah Hutson and Quinn Rodney to name a few” Lawrence told TTFA Media.

“It is more than likely one or more of these youngsters will feature in the match because we are seeing a lot of positives so far. The game is two weeks away so we still have some evaluation to do.” Lawrence concluded.

For Sadoo the call up is the opportunity of a life time, “This has always been a goal of mine through school, youth pro League and playing with Point Fortin Civic” said the former Naparima College midfielder.

The Cedros resident expressed pride in representing the remote village but lamented the lack of transportation to get to training and playing venues.

“We have a lot of talent in Cedros but transport is a major issue” said Sadoo.

One disturbing issue for Lawrence is the unavailability of Josiah Trimmingham for the immediate future. The big defender suffered a Danis Weber Type B fracture to his left ankle during training on March 31. Following initial examination and treatment by team doctor, Commander Israel Dowlat at the Eric Williams medical complex, it was reported that Trimmingham is expected to be out for approximately 12 weeks following healing and therapy. TTFA Media wish to convey prayer for a speedy recovery on behalf of the players and staff as well as all in football.
