Williams commented on the selection
“This is the best selection we have come up with and I am satisfied with the players available to us and I have confidence in the ability of every player,” he told TTFA Media.
“Every player selected was carefully assessed by myself and the support staff over the past few weeks and even months before that for us to get to this final selection. The players have worked extremely hard and have progressed both on and off the field of play.
“They are all working towards one common goal which is to represent the country to their best, to put into play everything they have gone through in practice and to seek the best possible finish for us, which is essentially qualification for the Under 20 World Cup in South Korea.”
Goals by captain Jabari Mitchell and Josh Toussaint secured a 2-2 draw for T&T with Colombian Third Division team Fundaleu on Tuesday night.
Next up, T&T faces Deportivo Cali’s under 20 team on Saturday morning. The squad is scheduled to arrive in San Jose, Costa Rica on February 15th.
T&T faces Bermuda in its opening CONCACAF qualifier at the Ricardo Saprissa Stadium on February 19th, before taking on hosts Costa Rica at the National Stadium on February 22nd and El Salvador at the same venue on February 25th.
The National Stadium and Estadio Ricardo Saprissa will both be used for the tournament, to be played in a new format consisting of a group stage, a classification phase, and the grand final.
Under the new format, designed to increase the number of meaningful, competitive matches, the top two teams from Groups A, B, and C will advance to the Classification Stage, where the Confederation’s four tickets to the World Cup at this level will be determined in round robin play among two groups of three teams each.
The top two teams of each of the two Classification Stage groups will qualify as CONCACAF representatives to the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017.
